How Simms waders are made

By Jessianne Wright EBS Contributor

With dealers in places like Argentina, New Zealand and Australia, Simms Fishing Products sends waders all over the world. These waders, used by anglers to keep from getting wet, have humble beginnings, starting out as many pieces of fabric hand-cut in Bozeman.

From a modern industrial building at Four Corners, designers and lab managers test and identify the best materials and most cost-effective pattern designs; the three- and four-layer Gore-Tex fabrics are cut out by hand; and every stitch is made with a hand-fed sewing machine.

Made in USA

Founded in 1980, Simms was purchased from Life-Link International and moved from Jackson, Wyoming, to Bozeman in 1993 by owner K.C.…

The native people of the area would hunt buffalo by running them off Painted Rock Cliff (an outcrop neighboring the island that still exhibits tribal paintings). The story goes that one buffalo swam its way to safety at Shelter Island. In the early 1900s, a drowning fisherman did the same, and lived here for a time. There was also historically a sweat lodge on the island, Ms. Maddux said.

Today, Shelter Island is home to Montana’s largest private estate, which was completed in 2011.

Consistent with its history, it remains a restorative and peaceful retreat: a 22-plus acre private island with a main house and a boathouse with guest quarters.…

The U.S. Treasury Department has approved Montana's 25 Opportunity Zones as nominated by Governor Steve Bullock.

In April 2018, Bullock nominated 25 areas of Montana for designation as an Opportunity Zone, after communities submitted proposals for consideration.

With the help of Prospera, the City of Bozeman was selected for an Opportunity Zone in May 2018. The Zone is a designated census tract south of Bozeman (along 19th/MSU) that is designed to provide tax benefits to investors. These Zones are new creations in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, and will act as an incentive for infill development.
