MSU Parent & Family Weekend 2026: Your Guide to Bozeman
Montana State University’s Parent & Family Weekend lands on October 23-24, 2026, and Bozeman is a great place to spend it. Fall color is fading into crisp mountain air, the Bobcats are at home, and downtown is in full swing. Here’s what’s on the schedule, plus tips for making the most of the weekend, whether this is your first visit or your fourth.
Parent & Family Weekend 2026 at a Glance
Registration runs through the MSU Alumni Foundation, and starred events are included with it. Check-in is at the Strand Union Building (765 W. Grant Street) on Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. You’ll pick up your lanyard and pass there, so stop in early.
Friday, October 23: Settle In and Explore
Friday is relaxed, so use it to get your bearings.
- Take a hike or visit the galleries (10 a.m.-4 p.m.). Stop by the Outdoor Recreation Center at 1401 W. Lincoln Street for trail maps and directions. If you’d rather stay on campus, three galleries are open: the Helen E. Copeland Gallery in Haynes Hall, the School of Architecture gallery in Cheever Hall, and the Exit Gallery in the Strand Union Building.
- Museum of the Rockies. Registered guests get free admission, including the Siebel Dinosaur Complex. Use the punch on your nametag to get in.
- More museums. The Gallatin Valley History Museum and the American Computer & Robotics Museum are good stops if you want something different.
- Photos with Spirit (1:30-3 p.m.). Take a family photo at Alumni Plaza.
- Welcome Reception (3:30-5 p.m.). Head to Strand Ballroom A to meet other Bobcat families, enjoy appetizers, and enter prize drawings that include game tickets.
- Bear Safety Clinic (4-5 p.m. or 5:30-6:30 p.m., $10). This one is very Montana. Learn how to reduce your risk of a grizzly encounter before you head into the backcountry.

Saturday, October 24: Tailgate, Football, and Volleyball
Saturday is the big day.
- Parent & Family Tailgate (10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.). Meet other families at Bobcat Stadium with a local DJ and food provided. Drinks are available for purchase.
- Bobcats vs. Weber State (1 p.m.). Football tickets for this game are sold out through the university, so confirm availability with the Bobcat Ticket Office at 406-994-2287 before you plan around it.
- Student Wellness Center. Tour the new facility. Admission is included with your registration.
- Bobcat Invitational Tennis Tournament. Matches start at 8 a.m. at the Bobcat Anderson Tennis Center, with free admission.
- Volleyball vs. Idaho State (7 p.m.). Fill Shroyer Gymnasium for the Bobcats. Tickets are sold separately.
Sunday Morning: A Beginner Hike on Peets Hill
If you’re staying through Sunday, the Parents Weekend Beginner Hike (9 a.m.-12 p.m., $10) is a good send-off. Meet at the Rental Shop and walk Peets Hill together before heading home.
Tips for Visiting Bozeman
- Book lodging early. Parent weekend and a home game fill hotels fast. MSU keeps a list of featured hotels and local accommodations.
- Plan for parking. Check the campus parking page before game day.
- Flying in? Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) is close to campus, and MSU lists airport shuttle options.
- Dress in layers. Late October in Bozeman can swing from sunny to snowy in a day.
- Make dinner reservations. Downtown fills up on game weekends, so book ahead.

Thinking About Making Bozeman Home?
Many families find that a weekend in Bozeman turns into something bigger. Some start looking at the area as an investment property near campus. Others see the Gallatin Valley and begin thinking about a second home or a move. If that sounds like you, the Montana406 team at Engel & Völkers knows Bozeman, Belgrade, Big Sky, and the surrounding markets.
