Every weekday, we feature a Listing of the Day. While these include villas, penthouses, brownstones and more, there are some gems that stand apart, garnering the most attention from our readers. This year seemed to be the year of the private island.

Below are the top five most popular listings of 2018, in order.

Some of the properties below have been sold, but some are still on the market—for those contemplating a move.

This private island in Montana, known as Shelter Island, is home to Montana’s largest estate. It was once asking as much as $22.75 million, but when we wrote about it, it was asking just under $14 million. The price discount must have worked, as the house sold in November, and was "the highest closed real estate transaction on Flathead Lake in over a decade," according to a representative for Engel & Völkers Western Frontier, the brokerage handling the sale. The broker would not confirm the sale price.

The property, which was asking $18.95 million when we wrote about it in July, sold for for $16 million In November, according to a representative for Halstead, the brokerage handling the sale.

Perhaps it’s the 6,700-square-foot gym that caught the eyes of our readers, propelling this Listing of the Day to No. 4 for 2018. The Boca Raton home was asking $6.95 million when we covered it in March. It’s gotten a discount—now asking $5.5 million. Interest so far has come from "a couple athletes, a luxury car dealership owner, a prominent personal injury attorney, even a pastor who oversees many churches," said broker Ben Moss. "Pretty interesting mix of potential buyers." Mr. Moss said the gym continues to be a standout.
